Laurence Petit

Laurence Petit is Senior Lecturer at the English department of the Université Paul Valéry-Montpellier 3. Until 2009, she was Associate Professor of Contemporary British Literature at Central Connecticut State University (USA).

She has published many articles in France and abroad about the relations between words and images in the works of Anita Brookner, A.S. Byatt, Penelope Lively, Deborah Moggach, Salman Rushdie, Vladimir Nabokov and Richard Kalisnoki.

She has co-edited Picturing The Language of Images (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2013), a special issue of Word and Image entitled “Musing in the Museum” (Volume 30, Number 1, 2014), as well as a special issue of Image and Narrative entitled “Photographic Text(ure): The Grain and the Dot” (Vol 15, No 2, 2014). 

She has translated into English two theoretical books by Liliane Louvel, L’Œil du texte and Texte/Image : Images à lire, textes à voir, which were published by Ashgate as a single volume, Poetics of the Iconotext, in 2010.

She also co-translated A.S. Byatt’s two latest novels, The Children’s Book (Flammarion, 2012), and Ragnarök (Flammarion, 2014).
